Pampers New Moms Education Programme

Improving health for new mothers & babies

Along with Proctor and Gamble, we wanted to target the United Nations Millennium Development Goals related to child and maternal health, as well as address the aims of the Campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal, New Born and Child Mortality (CARMMA) policy of South Africa.

We aim to

Reduce child mortality.

Reduce the number of children who die before the age of five years and particularly the number of babies under one month who die.

Improve maternal health and reduce maternal mortality.

Combat HIV/AIDS & PMTCT.

Achieve universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it and especially pregnant and breast feeding HIV positive women to prevent transmission to their babies and to keep these mothers healthy and alive.

Our plans are as follows

– Identify and train Pampers Ambassadors or community health workers called “Expert Moms” (two per facility) to provide talks and demonstrations to maternity wards and mother and child clinics for mothers who have just given birth.

– Pampers Ambassadors/Expert Moms or a qualified nurse, will hold daily workshops with new mothers and their babies and provide each mother and baby pair with education and an active baby sample and Pampers booklet.

Achievements

Our programme has been initiated in 204 hospitals across all nine provinces.
